Government Approval Scheme

We have looked carefully at applying to have ABC Payroll tested for inclusion in the list of "approved" software, but have decided that it is not worth the large investment of resources that would be required.

For over 20 years we have sold the ABC Payroll to thousands of businesses, and in all that time there has never been a problem with PAYE calculations or the payroll data. Many companies have had satisfactory PAYE Inspections during this time.

The problem with the Approval Scheme is that the software must do EVERYTHING as laid out in the PAYE Rulebook. Including a vast amount of rare and unlikely cases, many relating to large organisations. ABC Payroll caters for all the common small business situations, and over the past 20 years this has proved to be all that is needed. On the very rare occasion when an employer found some feature missing from ABC, we usually implemented it within a few weeks.

We have kept ABC as simple as possible, and we know it does everything you need. But because we have left out the unlikely cases, we cannot get approval for ABC.

We do go to great lengths to ensure that ABC always performs correctly with the Goverment Test Data each year. And ABC Payroll has been approved by the Government for electronically sending Year End Returns (for the past 3 years).

** LATEST NEWS ** January 2008. It seems we are not the only Payroll Company to feel like this. The Government has asked us if we would be interested in a cut down version of the Approval Scheme, and we said Yes. Basically, the proposed new Scheme will only test the more common functions of a Payroll. This seems a more sensible arrangement and we shall certainly apply for approval when (if) it is implemented.
